MOTH Poetic Circus: Movement Of The Heart

MOTH Poetic Circus was born from its original company MOTH Aerial Dance, with which was created a full-length Aerial Dance show, “Channeling” as well as a mesmerizing collaboration with Aimee Hancock, De Anima, a duo rectangle piece. The name change is inspired in part by trying to explain what it is that I do, which is in fact poetry of the physical form. I am also greatly influenced by poetry, words, stories and pictures, most especially the poems of my sister Radha Marcum.

MOTH Poetic Circus’ goal is to produce work that is evocative, physically challenging and innovative, that tells honest and relevant stories, that is conscious of environment and sustainability, and that is of course, poetic. We are first a circus, but in the most modern sense, whereas we use anything and everything we can to produce the work that we see as important.

MOTH is currently working on…

Beauty-Full - MOTH’s latest project, an hour-long solo show about beauty, society and body image. “Beauty-Full” will be a collaboration with renowned hip-hop dancer and choreographer Robert Taylor Jr,, who most recently appeared on Season 8 of So You Think You Can Dance! The last few lines of the poem Beauty XXV by Khalil Gibran, will give you a window into the inspiration for this show.

Beauty is eternity gazing at itself in a mirror.
But you are eternity and you are the mirror.

With this work, we are hoping to reach out to the world, in fighting against the status quo, and stating that we are beautiful, in all of our forms, in all of our ways. We are hoping to donate a percentage of proceeds to the Boulder Youth Body Alliance, an organization that supports teens in developing positive body images.

MOTH would like to get this project started in January 2012, and premier the work in the summer of 2012. In order to cover artist fees, travel expenses, costuming and marketing we need to raise a minimum of $6000. Once created MOTH hopes that through “Beauty- Full,” we will help raise awareness and break through societies barriers with a hip-hop infused circus that will leave everyone feeling beautiful just the way they are.

MOTH Poetic Circus is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Contributions for the purposes of MOTH Poetic Circus’ “Beauty-Full” must be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.
